Bolivia fights illegal drug production alone

After rejecting US help in 2008, the government has been trying to counter illicit cocaine production on its own terms.

Bolivia is one of the largest producers of coca – the plant used to produce cocaine.

The coca leaf has been used for medicinal and spiritual purposes in Bolivia and Peru for centuries.

The Bolivian government is trying to control the illicit production on its own terms, after kicking the US drug enforcement agency out of the country in 2008.
