France divided over gay rights bill

Rival protests held ahead of parliament vote on bill to legalise same-sex marriage and adoption.

French police have stepped up security in gay neighbourhoods in Paris on the eve of a vote to legalise gay marriage and adoption.

Large protests in the capital both for and against the bill have shown how deeply the public is divided over the issue.  

Homosexuals remain at risk of exclusion, ridicule and even violent attacks.
