Luxor sights empty as Egypt turmoil continues

Tens of thousands of people who make a living from tourism struggle to make ends meet as visitors stay away.

The instability in Egypt is having a devastating effect on the country’s tourism industry.

The government says more than $1bn in tourism revenue has been lost since the mass demonstrations in July after which the military seized power. Visitor numbers have since fallen by an estimated 80 percent.
