Mali museum struggles to save artifacts

Bamako national museum head says hardline groups try to destroy country’s cultural history.

Bamako’s national museum, which holds many important artifacts from Timbuktu and Gao, is struggling to stay open.

Mali’s rich culture comes from being at the crossroads of traders and scholars travelling through the Sahara.

The museum’s director says groups in the north are trying to wipe out that history, but there are many men like him willing to risk their lives to save this piece of Malian history.

Al Jazeera’s Nazanine Moshiri reports from Bamako.
