Robert Fisk was one of the few journalists who managed to enter the Hama during the 1982 military assault on the Syrian city.

At least 10,000 people were killed as the army crushed an armed rebellion led by the Muslim Brotherhood.

On the 30th anniversary of the start of the 27-day assault, Fisk tells Al Jazeera that he stood next to tanks firing on mosques in the Old City.
