South Africa debates mine nationalisation

Leaders discussing the issue of nationalising the mining sector during the African National Congress conference.

South Africa’s government says it has ruled out wholesale nationalisation of the country’s mining industry.

President Jacob Zuma, however, has promised that there will be greater state intervention and possibly strategic nationalisation of certain minerals.

The African National Congress party will decide on how to get more out of the country’s mineral wealth at its five yearly elective conference this week.
