On July 9, South Sudan will gain independence and become the world’s newest nation.
Increasing instability in the region and tensions between north and south Sudan could dampen the celebratory mood.
Rebel groups are destabilising parts of the south and skirmishes in south Khordofan have displaced thousands of people.
