Juan Manuel Santos, the president of Colombia, has met the sole survivor of a botched rescue attempt that ended with the deaths of four other hostages.

Luis Alberto Erazo, the freed hostage, described the police sergeant who led the rescue mission as a national hero. Still, families of the victims had harsh words for the government and its handling of the mission.
