Golf: US Open hit by stormy weather
Rain and thunderstorms interrupted the schedule of the US Open Golf, held at the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.
Numerous interruptions due to bad weather have played havoc with the schedule at the US Open Golf.
The 116th edition of the tournament is being held at the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. It is the ninth time Oakmont has played host to the event.
Play had to be called off on Thursday, with only nine players having completed their first rounds.
Sixty-nine players had been unable to complete their first rounds, while 78 others were unable to tee off at all, including world number one Jason Day.
Some players suffered up to three interruptions in their rounds. Englishman Lee Westwood summed up the feelings of many of the competitors, saying: “It’s frustrating having to keep coming off but there’s nothing you can do about the weather.”
The remainder of the tournament, however, is expected to take place in dry and largely sunny weather.
