Violence mars protest by Ethiopian Jews
Thousands turned out to demonstrate in Tel Aviv after video emerged of police beating a black Israeli soldier.

Tel Aviv, Israel – A video of two police officers beating a black Israeli soldier has sparked massive protests by Ethiopian Jews in Tel Aviv.
The latest protest, which began on Sunday afternoon and stretched into the evening, drew thousands of demonstrators decrying racism and police brutality. Although the protest began peacefully, violence erupted as some protesters hurled bottles and stones at officers in riot gear. Police deployed stun grenades and water cannons in an attempt to disperse the crowds.
Central Tel Aviv looked like a battlefield for hours, as passersby filmed the unrest and shared the footage on social media. Dozens of people were injured, including a number of police officers.
