Cuiaba, Brazil – Members of dozens of indigenous tribes have gathered in Brazil to participate in the 12th series of the Indigenous Games. More than 1,500 people representing more than 40 tribes are taking part.

Events include a tree trunk race, in which participants haul a 100-kilogram tree for over 500 metres, archery, wrestling, and a football-like game in which players use their heads to move the ball.

Unlike Western sporting events, which emphasise competition, the Indigenous Games focus more on celebrating tradition.

The games are being held in Cuiaba, the capital of Brazil(***)s Mato Grosso state.
