Supporters calling for Zelaya's reinstatement defied a government curfew to erect barricades and throw rocks at shield-bearing riot police [AFP]
The violence, the most serious unrest in years in the Central American country, left several demonstrators wounded [AFP]
Security forces were also left with a bloody nose [AFP]
The Honduran congress swore in Roberto Micheletti, the parliamentary speaker, as Zelaya's replacement just hours after the coup [AFP]
But Zelaya (second from left), who was forced from power after seeking a referendum on constitutional changes critics say was to extend his tenure, continues to enjoy strong regional support [AFP]
