Spain has the highest unemployment rate in the eurozone, where nearly one in four citizens do not have a job and roughly half the country’s youth are jobless.
As a result, the traditional Christmas lottery has become more popular than ever – becoming a near national obsession.
Many people are hoping that luck will be on their side this festive season in securing el Gordo – the Fat One – a potluck worth an enviable $1bn in prize money.
