Under the patronage of his excellency Hamad Bin Thamer Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Aljazeera Satellite Channel announces that the 2nd Aljazeera International Television Production Festival will be held from Monday 27 March  to Thursday 30 March 2006 at Doha – Sh

Note: Arabic and English are the official languages of the festival. All other entries should be dubbed or subtitled into either of the two languages.

Competitions…

Competitions cover the following categories:
• Documentaries
• Current affairs
• Investigative reports
• Features
• Channel and programme promotions

Documentaries
Portray facts through the use of video tape or cinema technology. Maximum duration: 60 minutes.

Investigative reports
Tackle political or social issues with analysis of their various aspects. Maximum duration: 60 minutes.

Features
Convey a clear picture of an event. Maximum duration: 7 minutes.

Promotions
Promote a channel or a programme. Maximum duration: 2 minutes.

Awards…

Three awards are offered:
• Gold
• Silver
• Bronze
• Three for documentary films – non-Arabic
• Three for investigative reports – non-Arabic
• Three for features – non-Arabic
• Three for documentary films – Arabic
• Three for investigative reports – Arabic
• Three for features – Arabic
• Three for promotions – one single for all participants

New Horizon…


New Horizon

New Horizon is the title of the special awards given to the best films produced by students in their universities and institutes or as thesis projects.

• Three for documentary films – non-Arabic
• Three for documentary films – Arabic

Jury…

Jury panels comprise expert media personalities and will be nominated by channels participating in the festival.

• A directory listing and introducing jury panelists will be produced.
• Artistic productions of jury panelists may not participate in festival competitions.

Participation…

• Participants may not submit more than two works each per category.
• Television works produced as of 1 January 2004 are eligible.
• A complete copy of each work is to be sent on (VHS) tape to be reviewed by jury, in addition to another (Betacam SP or Digital Betacam) (PAL).
• Each work should be attached with a synopsis explaining concept and details of the work in addition to a collection of still photographs to be used in the festival’s bulletins and publications.
• Each participant is to send a tape (Betacam SP or Digital Betacam) (PAL) recording three minutes duration of selected shots of each work to be shown as a promotion and in festival closing ceremony in case the work wins a festival award.
• Before sending works submitted to competitions, any advertisements or promotions that may have been included in the work should be removed.
• A special participation form should be filled out and submitted.

• Deadline for receiving applications to participate in competitions Thursday 10 October 2005.
• Deadline for receiving tapes to be entered in competitions Thursday 1 December 2005.
• Deadline for participating in festival exhibition Thursday 1 December 2005.

Exhibition…

A media exhibition will be held with the purpose of expanding cooperation in the field of production among participants. It also aims to familiarise participants with production institutions and their products.

The exhibitions will be held on 27 Monday through to Thursday 30 March 2006 at the Doha Sheraton Hotel, simultaneously with the holding of competitions.

The following institutions are eligible to participate in the exhibitions:

• Official and independent television organisations.
• Satellite channels
• Commercial institutions working in media field
• Private producers
• Publishing and distribution houses
