British police confirm Egypt arrest

British police say they are aware of an arrest in Egypt in connection with the investigation into last week's London bombings.

    The 7 July attacks killed at least 54 people and injured 700

    The man is understood to be Magdy El Nashar, a student at Leeds University who officers have been looking for as part of their inquiry into the blasts that killed 54 people and injured 700 on London's transport system on 7 July.

     

    "I can confirm that a man has been arrested in Cairo," a police source said.

     

    "We are aware of an arrest made in Cairo but are not prepared to discuss if we may or may not wish to interview [the person] in connection with this investigation," a spokeswoman for London's Metropolitan Police said on Friday.
