Hen Therapy for the Old and Lonely

How nurturing chickens is helping elderly communities combat loneliness and associated mental health problems.

Mental health issues such as loneliness and depression are enormous problems amongst the elderly.

There is more and more evidence to show that older people who feel lonely are far more likely to suffer from depression and also from dementia. And with a global population that is ageing rapidly, this is an issue that has the potential to cause a huge burden on societies all over the world.

We visit the unique Hen Power project, which was set up in August 2012 with the aim of bringing the elderly out of isolation and into a community united in its task of caring for hens.

Join Dr Guddi Singh in Newcastle, UK, to visit a project that is using hens to get older populations involved in their communities again, with incredible results.
