Philippines press freedom: Major broadcaster denied a new licence

Journalists say the network is being punished because of President Rodrigo Duterte’s grievances, and the decision will further damage an already troubled nation.

The Philippine Congress has refused to renew the operating licence of the country’s biggest broadcaster in what rights groups are calling a dark day for press freedom.

They say it is part of a broader crackdown on dissent.
