Australia: Divisions over coal industry expansion

Australia is the world’s biggest coal exporter and the government is being accused of not doing enough to protect the environment.

Australia is pressing ahead with the expansion of its coal industry.

But after a catastrophic bushfire season raised concerns over climate change, opposition is growing to a controversial new mine.

The country is deeply divided over whether mines are sources of opportunity or scars on the landscape.
