Plastic recycling: Australian engineers create a ‘micro’ solution
A micro-recycling factory in Sydney could revolutionise the way old plastics are turned into new materials.
When China stopped taking foreign recyclables two years ago, innovation was needed to deal with the world’s plastic problem.
Now engineers in Australia say they have developed a technology to reduce plastic that can fit into a room.
They say the micro-factory ends the need for waste products to be transported over long distances and could lead to much more rubbish being recycled.
Al Jazeera’s Andrew Thomas reports from Sydney, Australia.
