Plastic bag ban goes into effect in Mexico City

With only 4 percent of its waste ever recycled, Mexico’s biggest city introduces a new ban on plastics.

Mexico‘s capital city has banned the use of plastic bags.

It is the latest city trying to cut back on single-use plastics.

Mexico City produces an estimated 4.7 million metric tonnes of waste every year.

Less than 4 percent of that is recycled.

Al Jazeera’s Manuel Rapalo reports from Mexico City.
