Northern Iraqis protest over salary arrears

Human rights workers say at least 50 journalists and activists have been arrested as the regional government tries to prevent further pay protests.

Civil servants in northern Iraq have demonstrated against the government in Baghdad over salary arrears.

They are angry they have not been paid for six months and are demanding an urgent cash transfer to the Kurdish region of northern Iraq to settle their back pay.
