Jerusalem’s historic hotel to be shut down by Jewish settlers

In the Christian quarter of Jerusalem’s old city, the Imperial Hotel has welcomed pilgrims and tourists for 130 years.

Two hotels in the Christian quarter of the Old City in occupied East Jerusalem are to be taken over by a group of Jewish settlers.

It is a part of their long-term plan to change the centuries-old religious and ethnic make-up of the area.

It brings to an end a 14-year-long legal battle.

Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith reports.
