Despite monsoon, taps run dry in Indian megacity Chennai

The city of around 11 million people is suffering from a severe heatwave as seasonal monsoon rains have not arrived. Many reservoirs are almost empty.

In northeast India, more than a million people have been displaced due to flooding and landslides, caused by heavy by monsoon rains.

But in several other parts of the country, people are experiencing severe droughts. Chennai in the south – one of the world’s largest cities – is one of those.
