Exiled former governor Moise Katumbi returns to DR Congo

Accused of wanting to overthrow the Kabila government, Katumbi returns after three years in exile.

Former governor Moise Katumbi has returned home to his support base in Lubumbashi, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s second-biggest city.

He was once thought to be a challenger to then-President Joseph Kabila but the two had a falling out and Katumbi was convicted for property fraud.

But now, the owner of one of Africa’s biggest football clubs is back, with his supporters ready to welcome him home.

Al Jazeera’s Catherine Soi reports from Lubumbashi.
