Palestinians reopen Al-Aqsa gate locked by Israel 16 years ago

The Waqf, or trust, says locking the gate is an example of Israel trying to assert itself inside the Al-Aqsa compound.

Worshippers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound are back in control of a meeting hall that has been closed for 16 years by an Israeli court order.

Days of tension over who controls the area led to the arrest, then release, of the Muslim leader who helps administer the compound.
