First round of resurrected US-Taliban peace talks open in Qatar

Renewed negotiations expected to pave the way for direct talks between Taliban and Kabul to end 18 years of war.

The Taliban and the American negotiators have resumed talks aimed at ending the war in Afghanistan.

President Donald Trump halted those meetings in September following the killing of a US soldier.

Now, he is hoping for a solution before the 2020 presidential election.
