Senegal inaugurates largest mosque in West Africa

Mouride Brotherhood raises $50m to build mosque in a country where nearly half of the population lives on $2 a day.

A powerful religious group in Senegal has opened West Africa’s largest mosque at a cost of $50m.

It adds to the considerable political and economic influence of the Mouride Brotherhood that is already felt in Senegalese life.
