US calls on Seoul to pay more for US troops presence

President Donald Trump wants $5bn a year from Seoul for having 28,000 US soldiers stationed in South Korea which is more than 5 times what it pays now.

The United States is calling on South Korea to pay more towards the cost of stationing US troops in the country.

That demand was made during a high-level defence policy meeting in Seoul.

It has left some in Seoul questioning the US’s commitment to their relationship, and fearing North Korea may feel emboldened.
