Niger oil exploration plan threatens West Africa’s major reserve

Niger’s expanding oil exploration plans threaten Termit and Tin Toumma National Nature Reserve, the second-largest reserve in Africa.

Niger‘s government is forging ahead with plans to redraw and shrink the boundaries of a protected national park.

The natural reserve is home to many endangered species in the Sahara, which conservation groups say will be threatened by plans to open up access for oil exploration.
