Humpback whales return to New York in conservation victory

In the last decade, the whale population around New York has just exploded. There were 272 sightings last year compared with just five in 2011.

It looks like conservation efforts in waters near New York are paying off.

Experts say cleaner water has helped boost the numbers of humpback off the city’s coast. There were 272 sightings last year compared with just five in 2011.
