Protests force government to transport rubbish out of Moscow

Activists say the government is legally obliged to develop clean waste management.

The city of Moscow has been struggling to deal with eight million tonnes of rubbish it produces every year.

For decades, rubbish has simply been dumped around the Russian capital city.

But after protests earlier this year, it’s been decided to transport rubbish from Moscow to other regions hundreds of kilometres away by truck and train.
