Guatemala election: Candidates vow to tackle crime and poverty

Favoured frontrunner Sandra Torres from the centrist National Unity of Hope party leads after the first round of voting.

Guatemala’s top presidential candidates are facing each other in a runoff vote in August, after the first round was held on Sunday.

Sandra Torres won nearly a quarter of the ballots.

She and Alejandro Giammattei have pledged to crack down on crime and rein in poverty.
