Renowned F1 director Charlie Whiting dies

Whiting began his Formula One career in 1977 when he joined the Hesketh team.

Formula One has been shocked by the sudden death of Race Director Charlie Whiting, just days out from the first Grand Prix of the season.

The 66-year-old died of a pulmonary embolism in Melbourne on Thursday.

Australian Michael Masi will act as temporary race director for the season opener in Melbourne.
