Accusing someone of witchcraft is now a crime in India

Two thousand people accused of sorcery – most of them women – have been killed in rural India since the year 2000.

The government of Assam in northeast India has passed a law making it a crime to accuse someone of being a witch.

Mob murders of so-called “witches” are common across rural parts of the country.
