US government proposal will weaken Endangered Species Act

Ninety-nine percent of the species protected under the Act have survived, but with the new changes, that number is likely to decline.

The Trump administration unveiled a proposal in July that would strip the Endangered Species Act of some of its provisions.

Conservationists say this move would weaken a law enacted 45 years ago to keep plant and animal species that are in decline from going extinct.
