Nicaragua unrest: New refugee crisis unfolding in Latin America

Immigration authorities say so far 23,000 Nicaraguans have applied for asylum in neighbouring Costa Rica since deadly political unrest erupted in April.

A new refugee crisis is growing in Latin America, where a mass exodus of Venezuelans is impacting neighbouring countries.

Thousands of Nicaraguans are fleeing to neighbouring Costa Rica, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to escape persecution at home.
