Nicaragua’s national tourism in decline amid political unrest

Workers in Nicaragua’s tourism industry are hoping to hang on until the next busy season, but if the country has not stabilised by then, migration may become their only option.

The once-thriving tourism industry in Nicaragua has completely collapsed.

The recent unrest in the Central American country has meant tourists are staying away.

Since April, hundreds of people have been killed in protests against the country’s president Daniel Ortega.

Al Jazeera’s John Holman reports now from Granada on how business owners are struggling to make ends meet.
