
US: Immigrants prevented from making asylum bids
For the first time in 40 years, immigrants unable to claim political asylum as US President Donald Trump’s policies continue to divide families.
The US government has until Thursday to reunite families separated under President Trump‘s so-called “zero-tolerance” policy.
In the meantime, immigrants claim that US border officials are preventing migrants on US soil from making asylum claims to which they are entitled under US law.
Al Jazeera’s Heidi Zhou Castro reports on the toll that policy’s taking on families trying to cross into the US.
