Chile imposes tough new immigration measures

Chile imposes tougher immigration measures to cope with the influx of migrants from neighbouring countries.

Chile has become a magnet for migrants seeking relief from economic and political strife at home, especially Haitians, Venezuelans and Colombians.

The influx has prompted the conservative government to crack down on what it calls “irregular migration” with tougher regulations and new deadlines for applications.
