Nicaragua unrest: Business owners put pressure on government
Mercado Oriental is the largest open-air market in Central America, it generates hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue, and taxes, every year.
Business owners in Nicaragua’s capital are calling for a national strike to pressure the government to end its violent crackdown on protesters.
They are threatening to withhold taxes until the government has committed to putting an end to the violence.
Nearly 130 people have been killed in the crackdown since demonstrations began in April.
