Veterans of Korean War hope Trump-Kim summit brings peace

South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who has taken the role of a de facto mediator between the US and North Korea, wants a formal end to the Korean War which ended in a truce in 1953.

Many are hoping that Tuesday’s unprecedented summit between US President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un will be the first step to a peace treaty to formally end the Korean War.

The conflict pitted the Western-backed South against the North, supported by China.

Al Jazeera’s Florence Looi met a Chinese veteran who is hopeful lasting peace can be achieved, 65 years after the war ended.
