Karl Marx still sells, 200 years after his birth
Marx’s Communist Manifesto changed the world and his bicentennial birthday has inspired celebrations in art, politics, economics and even capitalism.
Events are taking place across the world to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the philosopher and revolutionary socialist Karl Marx.
Bicentenary events have been officially launched at a ceremony in his birthplace, Trier, Germany. Three exhibits have opened examining Marx’s life and works, and Marx himself can be found commodified into trinkets sold around the town.
Al Jazeera’s Paul Brennan reports.
