Kilauea volcano: Ash clouds prompt ‘red alert’ for aircrafts

Thundering explosions and a huge ash cloud from the crater atop Hawaii’s volcano has led officials to issue a ‘code red’ warning for aircraft.

There are warnings that a volcanic eruption on Hawaii’s Mount Kilauea could pose a risk to aircraft.

Pilots have been told to stay away from the volcano in order to avoid ash getting caught in the plane’s engine.

Lava has destroyed properties and forced thousands to flee their homes, since the first eruption 12 days ago.
