Iraq election: Hope amid frustration for Mosul residents

Iraq estimates it needs $88bn to rebuild areas destroyed in the fight against ISIL, as residents in Mosul fear that if they ‘don’t have basic infrastructure and jobs, then that’s the perfect recipe for terrorism to return’.

In Mosul, the two main issues discussed during election were security and construction.

But with the slow pace of rebuilding after the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) last year, some are worried that anger and frustration against the government could pave the way for new armed groups.
