Security forces vote early in Iraqi elections

Thursday’s early voting did not include the popular mobilisation units, but there are hopes that the successful merger of factions on the battlefield can be translated into cooperation in the political arena.

Close to a million security force personnel in Iraq are voting in the first national elections since the country declared victory over ISIL.

The polls open for everyone else on Saturday, but soldiers and police are allowed to vote early so that they can provide security on election day.
