Australia faces rubbish crisis as China bans waste import

For years China was the world’s top destination for recyclable waste, but a ban on certain imports has left nations scrambling to find new dumping grounds for growing piles of rubbish.

The world’s recycling industry is facing a shake-up.

Previously, China imported half the world’s recycled plastic and paper – but not any more.

New restrictions effectively ban imports, leaving places like Australia with nowhere to send much of its recycled waste.
