UK: Chagos Islands descendants seek citizenship

The government of the UK has recently apologised for the way many elderly people from the Caribbean were threatened with deportation and denied public services.

The so-called Windrush scandal opened up a debate about Britain’s relationship with its former colonies.

Now the descendants of people from the Chagos Islands hope a proposed new law can grant them British citizenship.
