UK’s ‘Windrush generation’ face deportation threat

Status of thousands of British residents who arrived from Caribbean decades ago are now being denied basic rights after being incorrectly identified as illegal immigrants.

The British government has apologised to thousands of members of the Caribbean community who have lived and worked in the UK for decades, but are now being treated as undocumented immigrants.

The problem is said to affect as many as 50,000 people who came from the West Indies to Britain after the Second World War, in the first wave of Commonwealth immigration.
