Mayor of Senegal’s capital sentenced to five years in prison

Khalifa Sall, Dakar’s mayor, plans to appeal against his five-year sentence for corruption, claiming that the trial is politically motivated and intended to end his campaign for president next year.

The mayor of Senegal’s capital is appealing against a five-year prison sentence for corruption.

Khalifa Sall was convicted of embezzling almost three million dollars of government money.

His supporters say the trial aimed to derail Sall’s ambitions of becoming president.
