Sri Lanka election: Record number of women campaign

A record number of 17,000 women contest local elections as law requires a quarter of all seats to be filled by women.

Votes are being counted in Sri Lanka after its most peaceful election for decades.

It is the first vote since electoral laws changed – that has allowed a record number of women to campaign for a seat in local government election.
